TIRUPATI: The Ongole taluka police arrested two accused in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old man who was burnt alive near Mukthinuthalapadu village. The incident took place on the night of June 6 in Dharani Venture, located on the outskirts of the village.
Disclosing the details at a press meet on Friday, DSP R. Srinivasa Rao said the victim, Dronachalam, was a resident of Mukthinuthalapadu and worked as a car driver. The first accused, Patapati Srihari (19), allegedly bore a grudge against the victim for repeatedly warning him to stay away from his niece. Feeling insulted, Srihari decided to harm Raja and shared his plan with Gandeti Ganesh (24), who agreed to assist him.
The DSP said that on the night of the incident, the accused invited Raja to drink with them and took him to Dharani Venture. After the victim became heavily intoxicated, they poured petrol on him and set him ablaze. The petrol was procured in advance from a nearby fuel station. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Both accused were absconding after the incident. Following the instructions of SP A.R. Damodar, a special team led by Ongole taluka circle inspector T. Vijay Krishna apprehended both the accused on Friday afternoon near the service road east of the Koppolu flyover on Kothapatnam Road in Ongole town, the DSP said.
