Two Animals Adopted Under IGZP’s Programme
Both adopters were presented with animal adoption certificates and souvenir kits during the acknowledgement ceremony
Visakhapatnam: Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam has announced the adoption of two animals under its animal adoption programme, strengthening public participation in wildlife conservation. A zebra named Raja has been adopted by Majji Siri Sahasra, who has contributed `60,000 for one year from June 18, 2026, to June 17, 2027. The zoo expressed gratitude for her support and welcomed her into the adoption family, which plays a vital role in sustaining zoo management and conservation efforts.
In another gesture of commitment to wildlife care, Bukkapatnam Ramadevi, wife of the late Bukkapatnam Venkata Krishna Rao, senior assistant in the forest department, adopted a star tortoise for one year, from June 18, 2026, to June 17, 2027. She contributed `10,000 towards the adoption. Both adopters were presented with animal adoption certificates and souvenir kits during the acknowledgement ceremony.
Curator G. Mangamma noted that the animal adoption programme offers contributors structured engagement opportunities and privileges and encourages citizens to participate in conservation actively. The donations made under this programme are eligible for exemption under Section 80G(5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, under the old tax regime.
