Train Services Resume As Floods Recede
Train operations are steadily returning to normal after a two-day disruption caused by Cyclone Arnab: Reports
VISAKHAPATNAM: Train operations are steadily returning to normal after a two-day disruption caused by Cyclone Arnab. Heavy water flows at Bridge No. 1052 (Up), located between the Ichchapuram and Jhadupudi stations in the Visakhapatnam Division, had temporarily halted traffic.
After receding of water levels at the bridge, train restoration in the Ichchapuram–Jhadupudi section of the Chennai and Howarah main line has been completed in phases. Single-line train operations resumed on the night of October 29 at 09.30 pm. The second line was subsequently cleared and commenced operations on October 30 at 03.45 pm, with trains currently running under precautionary speed limits.
South Coast Railway has implemented comprehensive measures to facilitate the safe movement of stranded passengers. Dedicated passenger help desks have been established at key stations to disseminate real-time information and provide assistance. Additionally, officials have ensured the continuous provision of drinking water, food, and other essential amenities for all affected travellers.
Union minister for railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has been closely reviewing the developments and ongoing restoration activities. Sandeep Mathur, general manager of South Coast Railway, personally monitored the situation from the zonal war room to oversee the emergency response, passenger assistance, and track restoration efforts.
In the last two days more than 40 trains were cancelled, 40 trains diverted, 16 trains short terminated and 30 trains rescheduled.
