VISAKHAPATNAM: All-party trade unions staged a dharna in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday demanding repeal of the four new labour codes, calling them anti-worker and pro-corporate. The rally began near the RTC Complex and proceeded through Aseel Metta to the GVMC Gandhi statue, where workers later formed a human chain.

Leaders from AITUC, CITU, INTUC, IFTU, CFTUI and others said the Centre had replaced 29 labour laws with four codes that dilute long-established rights. They warned the new framework weakens unionisation, collective bargaining, the right to strike, job security, minimum wages and PF benefits, placing workers at the mercy of managements.

The unions said only a united national movement can force the government to withdraw the codes and cautioned that they would intensify protests, including a nationwide strike, if their demands are ignored.
