Tirupati: Tirupati MP Dr Maddila Gurumurthy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting the prolonged denial of postings and salaries to nearly 200 senior police officers in Andhra Pradesh. The letter has also been marked to the President, Chief Justice of India, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Chief Secretary, and the DGP, urging urgent intervention in what he described as a violation of constitutional and service norms.

According to the letter, 199 officers—including four IPS officers—have been placed in the Vacancy Reserve (VR) or Compulsory Wait category since June 2024. This includes non-cadre SPs, Additional SPs, DSPs, and Inspectors, who have reportedly not received salaries or assignments for over a year.

The MP noted that these officers are attached to the DGP’s office in Mangalagiri and are required to mark attendance twice daily, but remain without work or pay. “No disciplinary or legal proceedings are pending against them, yet their salaries and allowances—such as house rent and pension contributions—are being withheld,” he said.

Citing a March 2025 response in the Legislative Council, Dr Gurumurthy pointed out that some officers have been unofficially deployed for bandobust during VIP or political events without formal orders, vehicles, or travel allowances.

He said the situation has caused severe financial distress, especially for officers nearing retirement. In some cases, officers were posted only on their last working day, with no arrears or retirement benefits paid.

Questioning the state government’s decision to seek central deputation for officers from other states despite having trained personnel idle, he called the move contradictory. He urged the Centre to direct the state government to reinstate postings, release pending dues, and ensure the officers are treated fairly as per constitutional norms and Supreme Court guidelines.
