Tirupati: Tirumala traffic police rescued two young children gasping for air inside a locked car parked near Varahaswamy Guest House-1 area on Friday.

According to police, a family from Badvel in YSR Kadapa district had travelled to Tirumala for darshan. The group included Sumalatha, her seven-year-old son and four-year-old daughter, Sumalatha’s brother-in-law Gangayya and his family, apart from a male relative.

While the women chose to walk up the hills from Alipiri, Gangayya, the male relative, and the two children proceeded by car. After reaching Tirumala, they parked near the Varahaswamy Guest House-1. Police said Gangayya and the other adult left the vehicle to enquire about the darshan process, locking the children inside the car with the windows rolled up.

As the car remained parked without ventilation, the children began to feel suffocated and started crying. Their distress drew the attention of nearby taxi drivers, who immediately alerted the Tirumala traffic police. Responding swiftly, the police broke open a window, rescued the children, and rushed them to Ashwini Hospital for treatment.

Tirumala One Town police later handed over the children to their mother Sumalatha. They booked a case of negligence against Gangayya.
