A report from the State Disaster Management Authority said Rudravaram in Nandyal district recorded 42.1 degrees Celsius, Vempalle in YSR Kadapa 41.5, Manganellore in Tirupati district 41.4, Kurnool 40.7, Kothapalli in Chittoor 40.03 degrees and Puttanavaripalle in Annamaya district 40 degrees Celsius.
Around 36 places in the state have recorded more than 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
At the same time, Anakapalli received the highest rainfall of 3.1 cm, Narsipatnam 2.9 cm, Tuni 2.4 cm, Chilamathur in Sri Sathya Sai district 2.2 cm, Ramgir in Sri Sathya Sai 2cm and Garugubilli in Parvathipuram Manyam district 1.9 cm during the last 24 hours.
The IMD said a trough of cyclonic circulation is running over northwest Rajasthan to Gulf of Mannar across East Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Another cyclonic circulation is lying over south Rayalaseema and the neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Wednesday’s trough in westerlies from Sikkim to north Odisha across West Bengal and Jharkhand between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level has become less marked. Likewise, another trough from the cyclonic circulation over east Madhya Pradesh to south interior Karnataka across Marathwada and north interior Karnataka extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
Under the influence of these systems, thunderstorms, accompanied with lightning, are likely at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Yanam till April 21, the IMD report said.
