5 Killed in Car-Truck Collision in AP

Three persons from Palnadu district died after the car in which they were travelling collided with a truck near Chenkicherla in Nellore district

Nellore: What began as a joyful family pilgrimage to Tirumala ended in heartbreak early Saturday morning when a Toofan vehicle carrying nine members of a family rammed into a truck from behind near Chakicherla in Ulavapadu mandal of SPSR Nellore district, killing five and injuring four.

The deceased have been identified as N. Subhashini 30, N. Venkata Narasamma 55, three-year-old Abhinaya Krishna, Y. Srinivasa Rao, 60, and N. Rukmini 30. While Subhashini, Narasamma and Abhinaya Krishna died on the spot, Srinivasa Rao died while undergoing treatment at Nellore. Rukmini died while being shifted to Guntur for treatment. Subhashini is the mother of Abhinaya Krishna, while Narasamma his grandmother.
Sons of Narasamma, Srinu and Venkateswarlu, her husband Ramoorthy, Venkateswarlu’s son and Subhashini daughter escaped with minor injuries. Driver Gangaraju is undergoing treatment.
The family from Kotta Ganeshunipadu village in Machavaram mandal of Palnadu district had set out on Friday night to offer the child’s hair and seek Lord Venkateswara’s blessings. Their journey went smooth until during the early hours of Saturday when their vehicle rammed into a truck at high speed and overturned. The accident led to a traffic jam.
The grief was palpable at Kavali Hospital, where the father, Chinna Venkateswarlu, broke down over his child’s body, a scene that moved everyone present.
Police have registered a case, sent the bodies for post-mortem, and launched an investigation.
Ministers Gottipati Ravi, Dola Balaveeranjaneya Swamy, Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and Anagani Satyaprasad expressed shock over the incident. They instructed that the injured be given the best medical care and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families.
