Three Held For Harassing Woman In Vinukonda
The police complaint from the woman and her family stated that at the time of marriage, her parents sold away two acres of farmland and gave Rs 12 lakh and 25 sovereigns of gold as a dowry.
Vijayawada: Police booked a man and his parents on charges of harassing his wife on charges that she was having dark complexion and bringing bad-luck to their family.
At the height of the harassment, the family had sent her away from their home, at Thimmayapalem of Vinukonda in Palnadu district.
According to the police, Gopi Lakshmi hailing from Nadigadda of Vinukonda mandal was married to Koteswara Rao from Vinukonda on June 4.
After two months of their married life, the husband started troubling the wife by citing her dark complexion. Her parents-in-law too harassed her with a charge that she brought bad luck to the family.
The police complaint from the woman and her family stated that at the time of marriage, her parents sold away two acres of farmland and gave Rs 12 lakh and 25 sovereigns of gold as a dowry. However, her husband and in-laws “started harassing her and demanding additional dowry.”
The victim woman staged a protest in front of her parents-in-law’s house, seeking justice. However, her husband and the parents-in-law locked their house and went away, police said.
Based on the complaint, police booked a case against the three and started an investigation.
