‘This Is My Motherland,’ Declares PK Over Criticism of His Hyderabad Visits

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena chief K. Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday strongly advocated national unity, criticised divisive regional politics and asserted his right to travel anywhere in the country. Addressing a range of political and social issues during a podcast, the AP Deputy CM responded to criticism over his visits to Hyderabad. He said, “This is not anyone’s estate; this is my motherland.” Pawan Kalyan alleged receiving threats and restrictions being put on his political activities in Telangana. He said curbing his fundamental rights is against democratic principles. He maintained that his present focus remains on the development of Andhra Pradesh.

Pawan Kalyan said welfare schemes for disadvantaged sections are necessary. But he cautioned against indiscriminate freebies offered for political gains, calling for a consensus among political parties on the issue. On caste politics, the JS chief said political advancement could not be viewed solely through the prism of caste. Pawan revealed that he had once contemplated joining the Naxalite movement in his youth. But his elder brother Chiranjeevi guided him towards a constructive path.
Referring to the proposed delimitation exercise, Pawan Kalyan acknowledged the concerns of southern states. But he maintained that there is no need for controversy after Union home minister Amit Shah’s assurance in this regard.
