Nellore: The traditional Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam ritual was performed with religious fervour at the ancient Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati on Monday morning ahead of the annual Brahmotsavams scheduled to be held from May 23 to 31.
As part of the customary pre-festival purification ceremony, temple authorities carried out an elaborate cleansing ritual between 7 am and 9 am. The sanctum and temple premises, along with the shrines of Sri Parthasarathy Swamy, Sri Andal Ammavaru, Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy and Sri Pundarikavalli Ammavaru, were ceremonially purified with sacred water.
The ritual assumed a spiritually vibrant atmosphere as holy water mixed with aromatic substances such as namakopu, srichurnam, kasturi turmeric, green herbs, camphor, sandalwood powder, kumkum and other fragrant ingredients was sprinkled throughout the temple complex, filling the surroundings with divine fragrance.
Following the completion of the purification rituals, devotees were allowed for Sarva Darshan.
Temple deputy EO V.R. Shanthi, chief priest Srinivasa Deekshitulu, AEO A.B. Narayana Choudary, superintendent Seshagiri, temple inspector Ranjith and other priests participated in the programme.
