Terror Threat: Police Deploy BDS, Conduct Searches In Tirupati

Tirupati: The Tirupati police sprang into alertness following two e-mails of bomb threat to various places in the city. Security has been heightened in the the pilgrim city.

The police received two suspicious e-mails from ISI and former LTTE militants that RDX explosives were planted at four places -- RTC bus station, Srinivasam, Vishnu Nivasam, Kapilatheertham temple, Govindarajula Swamy temple premises. Soon, the bomb disposal squads (BDS) ransacked the areas thoroughly.

The Intelligence and cyber security wings are investigating into the threat. As a precautionary measure, the police provided bandobust at the judges' residential complex and court complex in the city. BD Teams and Sniffer dogs have been pressed into service to search every nook and corner in the city. On Oct. 6, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to visit the city. In view of the CM's visit, the helipad at the agricultural college was heightened.

Police also conducted searches at the Tiruchanoor Padmavathi temple, Tirumala, Sri Kalahasti Devasthanam. Finding no suspicious things and with the pilgrim rush being very heavy, the police did not leave anything for chance. They searched every corner.

According to information, it is learnt that the e-mail was generated by ISI Network with headquarters at Tiruvallur and some former LTTE militants.
