Tension prevailed in Darsi on Sunday as a clash broke out between the YSRC leaders and police during the closing hours of the municipal nomination process, leaving a sub-inspector injured.

The confrontation erupted amid protests by YSRC leaders, who alleged that police were preventing their candidates from filing nominations for the municipal elections. They accused the police of favouring ruling Telugu Desam candidates and deliberately obstructing opposition nominees from exercising their democratic rights.

YSRC leaders further alleged that police personnel behaved inappropriately towards their candidates, triggering protests that eventually escalated into a confrontation. Police reportedly resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the agitated party workers and bring the situation under control.

An SI, Yedukondalu, sustained injuries during the clash between the police and YSRC workers. Details about the nature of the injuries and the circumstances in which the officer was hurt were not immediately available.

The incident follows earlier tension at the Darsi municipality office, where TD and YSRC supporters reportedly clashed while attempting to file nominations. Police had resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the rival groups after allegations that nomination papers were snatched and torn.

YSRC leaders maintained that their candidates were being denied an opportunity to participate in the electoral process and demanded that the authorities ensure fairness.
