Tense Situation Prevails in Uravakonda as YSRC Protest Ends in Arrests

Anantapur:Tense situation prevailed in Uravakonda on Tuesday after police detained YSRC leaders and workers during a protest over alleged land encroachments and other issues in the Assembly constituency.

Former Uravakonda MLA Y. Visweswar Reddy had called for a dharna in front of the tahsildar’s office, alleging a rise in land encroachments and other irregularities in the constituency. Police denied permission for the protest.

When Visweswar Reddy, accompanied by party leaders and workers from different parts of the district, attempted to proceed towards the tahsildar's office, police stopped him near the YSRC office in Uravakonda and attempted to take him into custody.

Party workers gathered in large numbers and tried to prevent the arrest. After police placed Visweswar Reddy in a vehicle, some protesters allegedly placed oxygen cylinders and stones on the road, disrupting traffic and attempting to prevent the police vehicle from leaving.

Police later shifted Visweswar Reddy to Guntakal. Following his detention, YSRC leaders and workers staged a sit-in on the main road in Uravakonda, causing traffic disruption.

Former MP Gorantla Madhav was also taken into preventive custody from Shivarami Reddy Colony. Additional police forces were deployed in the town to maintain law and order.

Speaking to the media, Visweswar Reddy alleged that the police were acting at the behest of AP finance minister Payyavula Keshav instead of discharging their duties impartially. He demanded a thorough inquiry into the alleged land encroachments and other irregularities in the Uravakonda Assembly constituency.
