Class 8 boy drowns in reservoir, locals protest in Markapuram
A 15-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a summer storage reservoir at Gollapalli village in Tripuranthakam mandal of Markapur district on Sunday, triggering protests by villagers who blamed the tragedy on the alleged negligence of the rural water supply department.
The deceased, Uppalapati Tirumala Babu, a Class VIII student, had gone to the reservoir with friends during the Sunday holiday when he accidentally drowned.

Nursing student gives birth in Anantapur
A 21-year-old B.Sc. Nursing student gave birth to a baby boy after allegedly becoming pregnant following a relationship with a youth she met through Instagram. The newborn was handed over to the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) department after the student's family expressed its inability to raise the child due to financial hardship.
According to WD&CW officials, the student approached the youth after learning about her pregnancy, but he allegedly denied having any relationship with her or accepting responsibility for the child. She delivered the baby at a private hospital on Friday.
The student's parents later informed the authorities that they were unable to care for the infant because of severe financial constraints and requested that the newborn be surrendered to the government.
Officials said the baby was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which initiated the legal procedure for taking the infant into protective care. The child will remain under the care of the Women Development and Child Welfare department in accordance with the provisions of the law.
Fake TTD EO email ID used to cheat South African NGO of ₹37,000
Tirupati East police have registered a case after an unidentified person allegedly cheated a South Africa-based non-profit organisation of ₹37,000 by creating a fake email ID resembling that of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) executive officer (EO) and posing as the devasthanam’s top official.
According to police, the accused created the fake email ID eottdtot@gmail.com, which closely resembles the official TTD executive officer's email ID eottdtpt@gmail.com.
Using this fake email ID, the accused contacted India Cares, a registered non-profit organisation in Pretoria, South Africa, represented by Venkataratna Prasad Angara, regarding the supply of Laddu and Vada Prasadam and Kalyanam materials for the proposed Sri Venkateswara Kalyanam 2026 to be held in Johannesburg.
The accused told the NGO that payment of prasadam charges is essential for processing the request for the Tirumala prasadam during the Sri Venkateswara Kalyanam 2026. The accused went on to issue official proceedings for delivery of the prasadam. Believing the mail to be genuine, Venkataratna Prasad transferred ₹37,000 to the UPI account shared by the accused on June 22. The accused then sent a fake receipt for the payment, promising delivery of the prasadam.
The fraud came to light when the accused stopped responding to further communication. India Cares then contacted TTD through its official email ID. After verification, TTD confirmed that it had neither sought nor received any payment from the organisation; that the email account, proceedings, and receipt used by the accused are fakes.
Subsequently, based on a complaint lodged by TTD assistant Vigilance and Security officer Gadiraju Chandra, Tirupati East police have registered a case under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS and Section 66D of the IT Act.
Inspector V. Srinivasulu said efforts are underway to identify the accused.
Nellore police crack mysterious ‘cardiac arrest’ murder, arrest brother-in-law
Nearly a month after the death of a mandal agriculture officer, initially believed to be due to a cardiac arrest, SPSR Nellore police have arrested the victim's brother-in-law for meticulously planning the murder following a financial dispute.
The breakthrough came after the victim's wife N. Lavanya approached Nellore SP Dr. Ajitha Vejendla on July 6, expressing suspicions over the circumstances surrounding the death of her husband Nadavati Srihari of Kotha Minagallu village in Buchireddypalem mandal.
Acting on her complaint, the SP handed over the case to Nellore Rural DSP Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao for a comprehensive investigation of the case.
Police registered a case on the basis of Lavanya’s complaint and started their investigation into the mandal agriculture officer’s death on June 15. Following questioning of witnesses, relatives, and other key persons, investigators uncovered evidence that the cardiac arrest had actually been a murder.
The prime accused is Kudumula Harikrishna of Ravurivari Kandriga in TP Gudur mandal. He is the victim Srihari's brother-in-law and son of Srihari's sister. Harikrishna allegedly conspired with Sompalli Ravindra of Golagamudi and Buchingari Yanadayya of Ramatheertham to eliminate Srihari by injecting him with a substance that induced cardiac arrest.
Police said the motive behind the murder is financial dispute. About six months ago, Srihari had reportedly given Harikrishna money to purchase 10 acres of land at Minagallu. However, Harikrishna allegedly squandered the money on his personal vices. When Srihari repeatedly demanded the money back, Harikrishna allegedly plotted his murder.
Based on the evidence collected, police have arrested Ravindra and Yanadayya and produced them before a court, which has remanded them to judicial custody. Harikrishna is, however, absconding. Special police teams have been deployed to trace and arrest him.
