VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizianagaram district police arrested four teenagers in connection with a highway robbery case that took place on July 19, where a trucker was robbed of his money and mobile phone.

Sahukar Santosh Kumar, a 45-year-old truck driver hailing from Rayagada, Odisha, was on his way from Anandapuram to Rayagada along the Kothavalasa Highway Bypass Road with a load of sticks.

After halting for dinner at a motel near Jonnavalasa village around 11:00 pm, Kumar resumed his journey at 11:45 pm.

Soon after leaving the eatery, a group of teens on two scooters intercepted Santosh's truck and struck him on his head with iron rod and fled with his mobile phone and ₹ 6,000 in cash.

Circle inspector B. Lakshmana Rao from Vizianagaram Rural took up the investigation and arrested four individuals. During the interrogation, the suspects confessed to the highway robbery and stealing the scooters used in the crime, as well as two more two-wheelers after the robbery.

The main suspect was identified as Chenna Akhil, 18, and the three others were juveniles. Police were searching for another individual named Karthik.

A case was registered at the Vizianagaram Rural police station.
