Nellore: Successful resolution of a case related to the sensational theft of boats from Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour has emerged as a shining example of how technology-driven policing is transforming criminal investigations in Andhra Pradesh.

Under the leadership of SPSR Nellore superintendent of police Dr. Ajitha Vejendla, district police effectively leveraged the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) platform to solve the complex crime that would otherwise have taken months to unravel.

The Juvvaladinne boat theft case initially posed a major challenge to investigators. Four boats that had been under the custody of the Fisheries Department went missing under mysterious circumstances, raising concerns among fishermen and government officials alike. With very few physical clues available and the accused carefully planning their movements, the case appeared difficult to crack through conventional investigative methods.

However, investigators turned to NATGRID, the country's integrated intelligence platform that enables authorised agencies to access and analyse information from multiple databases. During the probe, police identified a mobile number suspected to be linked to one of the accused. A search through NATGRID revealed the mobile number’s connection with a vehicle bearing Pondicherry registration number PY02T8733.

Further analysis of the vehicle's travel history established that it had been used by the accused to travel to Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour before the theft had been committed. After the crime, one of the accused reportedly returned to Karaikal in the same vehicle, while other members of the gang escaped using the stolen boats. The digital trail proved crucial in identifying the suspects, reconstructing the sequence of events, and providing investigators with vital evidence.

Special Branch DSP V. Dheeraj said the case demonstrates the immense potential of data-driven investigations. The Juvvaladinne breakthrough is not an isolated success. Nellore police have used NATGRID in several other cases, including cybercrime, murder, and extortion investigations. In a cyber-fraud case, image-search capabilities helped identify suspects whose details had not been available in bank KYC records.

In a Gudur murder case, photographs retrieved through NATGRID assisted investigators in tracing accused persons who had fled to Uttar Pradesh, leading to their arrest. Similarly, suspects in an extortion case had been identified through photographs linked to mobile numbers traced during the investigation.

Police officials believe such intelligence-led investigations will play a crucial role in enhancing public safety, improving detection rates, and ensuring swift justice in increasingly sophisticated criminal cases.
