TDP’s Palla Srinivas Rao Criticises Jagan Over Amaravati Capital Issue
Recalling earlier statements, Rao said that during the 2019 elections, the YSR Congress Party had assured voters that Amaravati would be developed as the capital. However, he alleged that the party changed its position after coming to power by proposing a three-capital model, with Visakhapatnam projected as one of the capitals.
Amaravati: Palla Srinivas Rao, state president of the Telugu Desam Party, on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of failing to fulfil his promise of developing Amaravati as the state capital and of repeatedly shifting his stand on the issue.
“Initially, Jagan Mohan Reddy said Amaravati would be the capital and contested elections on that basis. After coming to power, he spoke about three capitals and later indicated Visakhapatnam as the capital,” Rao said.
He further criticised the previous government’s development approach, referring to the proposed “Mavigun” coastal urban corridor concept. Rao alleged that the idea was being projected as an alternative to Amaravati and could discourage investment in the capital region.
Rao claimed that such proposals created uncertainty among investors and farmers, and accused the YSRCP of advancing its political agenda prematurely ahead of the next elections.
“The next election manifesto is for 2029, but such narratives are being pushed now. This reflects a lack of commitment to Amaravati and misleads farmers and the people of Andhra Pradesh,” he said, adding that voters would respond in the المقبلة elections.
The remarks come amid continuing political debate over the future of Amaravati and the broader capital development strategy in Andhra Pradesh.
