Nellore:Municipal Administration Minister Ponguru Narayana has alleged that the YSRC government pushed Andhra Pradesh into financial and environmental crises.

The last government left behind a debt burden of Rs 10,000 crore, and 85 lakh tonnes of untreated waste across the state, he said.

Narayana was addressing a gathering after inspecting the biomining and recycling unit at Allipuram dumping yard in Nellore Rural mandal. He said the alliance government “is committed to achieving a Swachh Andhra Pradesh by October 2, Gandhi Jayanti.

“The Jagan-led government neglected waste management and failed to act on garbage clearance contracts. We’ve brought transparency by calling fresh tenders,” he said.

He said 6,500 tonnes of waste is generated daily across the state. “In Nellore city alone, 3 lakh tonnes of garbage are piled up at Donthali dumping yard and another 30,000 tonnes at Allipuram.”

The minister praised Sarvepalli MLA Chandramohan Reddy for continuing the work on clearance of the Allipuram yard for two decades. Some 5,000 tonnes of waste have been recycled here, he said.

The Allipuram yard, he said, would be completely cleaned in two months and converted into a fully equipped public park. A similar cleanup and recycling initiative would be launched across all municipalities.

Corporation commissioner Nandan, senior TDP leaders Vemireddy Vijayabhaskar Reddy, former municipal chairperson Tallapaka Anuradha and other local representatives were present.

Earlier in the day, Narayana inaugurated Thikkana Park, which was revamped at a cost of `30 lakh in Ranganayakulapeta, Nellore. Expressing joy at seeing children playing around, he said CCTV cameras are being installed in the park for everyone’s safety.

The government would modernise parks in all 123 municipalities with installation of play and gym equipment.

He said the TDP had initiated the development of 100 parks in Nellore back in 2018. Park modernization work is resuming with a focus on public health and children's recreation, he said.
