VIJAYAWADA: A delegation of Telugu Desam MPs met Union ministers Jitendra Singh and Virendra Kumar in New Delhi on Wednesday to plead for some science and sports related facilities for Andhra Pradesh.

The delegation included Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu, Bharat Mathukumilli, Sana Sathish Babu, Beeda Masthan Rao and Tenneti Krishnaprasad.

They submitted formal representations to the ministries of science & technology and social justice to take action on these two major initiatives. They sought the establishment of a disability sports centre in Visakhapatnam.

In a representation to Jitendra Singh, Devarayalu sought strategic support for the designating AP as a strategic Space hub, as also for enhancing scientific research infrastructure, and installing Doppler weather radars in the Anantapur and Sri Satya Sai districts.

In a representation to Virendra Kumar, the MPs sought early setting up of the proposed disability sports centre in Visakhapatnam.

“The initially identified site at Gambheeram was found unsuitable due to its hilly terrain. A new 22.64-acre site at Bakkannepalem village has now been jointly inspected and approved by state and central officials,” it was noted.

The MPs urged the minister to approve the new location and finalise implementation plans. “The centre will serve as a regional hub for para-athletes in South India and a symbol of inclusive sporting excellence,” the delegation emphasized.
