SVIMS Gets Advanced Cancer-Detection Equipment
IOCL Donates Rs 22 Cr Medical Equipment to SVIMS, Tirupati
Tirupati: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has contributed medical equipment worth Rs 22.01 crore to the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. The donation includes advanced diagnostic machines aimed at strengthening the hospital’s oncology and radiology services.
The newly installed equipment comprises a 3 Tesla MRI scanner, MAGNETOM Vida, worth Rs 14 crores, and a 4D CT Simulator System (SOMATOM go.Sim) used for radiotherapy planning, worth Rs 8 crores. These state-of-the-art machines are expected to significantly improve early tumour detection, cancer treatment planning, and diagnosis of neurological disorders.
Inaugurating the new facilities on Thursday, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman B.R. Naidu said SVIMS is emerging as one of the leading super-speciality hospitals in the country. He added that the TTD is allocating Rs 140 crores annually to develop and expand the hospital, with a strong focus on delivering quality healthcare to the poor.
Naidu highlighted that SVIMS is the only hospital in Rayalaseema equipped with such advanced diagnostic tools, which will primarily benefit cancer patients. He noted that the machines would assist in detecting tumours accurately without harmful side effects, while also helping determine precise radiation doses during treatment. According to him, more than 2.5 lakh patients from economically weaker sections would benefit from these services annually.
IOCL marketing director Satish Kumar, speaking on the occasion, said the company was proud to support SVIMS and would continue to contribute to similar public welfare initiatives in the future.
SVIMS Director Dr. R.V. Kumar said the hospital, under TTD’s administration, is not only providing top-quality medical care free of cost to the underprivileged but also offering high-standard education at the Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women.
TUDA chairman C. Divakar Reddy, IOCL executive director (HR) Mukesh Rajan, SVIMS medical superintendent Dr. A. Ram, radiology head Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi and IOCL representatives Dattatreya and Badrinath were among those present at the event.
