Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh’s Surya Charishma Tamiri clinched her first senior national title with a stirring come-from-behind victory in the women’s singles final at the Yonex-Sunrise 87th Senior National Badminton Championship on Sunday.

Playing before a home crowd at the Chennupati Ramakotaiah Municipal Corporation Indoor Stadium, she defeated Odisha’s Tanvi Patri 17-21, 21-12, 21-14 in a gripping three-set encounter.

After dropping the opening game, Surya Charishma regrouped strongly, dominating the second set with superior court coverage and tactical control. She carried that momentum into the decider, maintaining an aggressive approach to seal the match convincingly.

The mixed doubles title produced a major upset, with second seeds Sathwik Reddy K of Telangana and Radhika Sharma of Punjab stunning top seeds Ashith Surya and Amrutha P of Karnataka 21-9, 21-15.

In the men’s singles final, Tamil Nadu’s Rithvik Sanjeevi S prevailed over Haryana’s Bharat Raghav 21-16, 22-20 in a tense straight-sets contest. Top-seeded Tamil Nadu pair Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar R lived up to expectations in the men’s doubles, defeating Puducherry’s Mithileish P. Krishnan and Prejan 21-17, 21-12.
