Survivors of Vizag Steel Mishap Remain in ICU
One of the injured is P. Srinivas Rao, 48, who sustained burns covering 40 per cent of his body.
Visakhapatnam:Three workers injured in Monday’s accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) continued receiving treatment at Seven Hills Hospital, with two of them reported to be in a critical condition.
One of the injured is P. Srinivas Rao, 48, who sustained burns covering 40 per cent of his body. A permanent employee at RINL, he was initially treated at the plant's hospital before being shifted to Seven Hills. There, he has now been moved to a general room.
The condition of two other workers remains serious. K. Paidiraju, 50, a contract worker with 25 years of service at RINL, suffered nearly 90 per cent burns and is currently in the ICU.
Alongside him is G. Suribabu, 52, who also sustained 90 per cent burns and is receiving intensive care. Relatives of both these victims said their conditions remained critical.
Family members of Paidiraju shared an emotional moment as they recalled a video call they had with him before he lost consciousness. In the video, Paidiraju urged his son not to argue with his mother, ensure his younger brother's education and take responsibility for the family’s upkeep. “Goodbye, Daddy,” he said, which relatives described as his final words.
The relatives camped on the fourth floor of Seven Hills Hospital, while the injured patients were being treated in the ICU on the eighth floor. Due to the severity of their condition, the hospital has restricted visits, allowing only one person to see them at a time.
Y. Ramakrishna, a relative, mentioned that the families are anxiously awaiting updates from the doctors, hoping for signs of improvement.
The accident at the steel plant has claimed eight lives, and the plight of the injured workers remains pathetic.
