Vijayawada: The High Court has summoned the Tekkali CI before it with all records in a case of death of a student under suspicious circumstances in 2021. The case has political overtones.
A single judge bench of Justice Y Lakshmana Rao held the hearing on a petition filed by the mother Muvvala Sundari of the deceased boy student Muvvala Nagesh here on Friday, with a plea to transfer the case to CBI.
The court directed the state government to explain why the case should not be investigated by an SP rank officer. It asked the government pleader as to how the police could confirm that the death of the student was by suicide, without even getting the blood stains report from the place of mishap.
After hearing both the parties, the court adjourned the next hearing in the case to Feb. 6.
Muvvala Nagesh, 19, was studying in Sri Sivani Engineering College in Srikakulam. In 2021, he died under suspicious circumstances. His parents raised suspicion on his death. They alleged that as their son complained about the sale of drugs in the college, the college management beat him to death.
The Jana Sena party supported the parents and staged a protest with a demand for action against the college management. As Jana Sena head, Pawan Kalyan had visited the parents and consoled them then.
However, in the 2024 elections, Sri Sivani Engineering College chairman Doneti Sridhar joined the Jana Sena party. Subsequently, the police gave a clean chit to the management and submitted a final report, stating that the student died due to a failed love affair. Petitioner’s counsel Jada Sravan Kumar argued the case.
