Visakhapatnam: Home minister Vangalapudi Anitha and tribal welfare minister Gummidi Sandhya Rani appealed to the people to make the society free from ganja and other drugs.
Both the ministers participated in ‘Chaitanyam-2025’ a programme to create awareness among the people on the impact of ganja at Paderu Government College premises in ASR district on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, the home minister said the government was providing alternative means of livelihood to stop ganja harvesting by giving them seeds to grow silver oak, coffee, jackfruit, and other horticultural products so that they could wean themselves away from growing ganja.
She said after the NDA alliance came to power, the special focus was on controlling the ganja production in the agency.
She said Eagle Team was creating awareness among the Adivasis and expressed concern over the incarceration of innocent tribal children in Visakhapatnam Central Jail.
“Ganja traders used these innocent Adivasis for growing and transportation of ganja. We will seize the smugglers' property and send them to jail,’’ the home minister warned.
Minister Sanhya Rani, Rampachodavaram MLA M. Sirisha Devi, Collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar, and SP Amith Bardar were present.
Earlier, both the ministers offered special pujas to Modakondamma Goddess at the Paderu temple.
