Vijayawada: The stone-filling works have commenced in the upstream section of Gap-2 of the Polavaram irrigation project, following a puja performed by water resources officials and MEIL representatives on Tuesday.

Officials said the downstream stone-filling activity in Gap-2 had been completed earlier, and stabilisation of the base enabled commencement of similar works in the upstream stretch. Ground-strengthening and stone-laying are now underway, while soil-filling operations continue on both sides of the diaphragm wall.

Authorities stated that the works are progressing to targets set by the government and expressed confidence of completing key components of the project within the stipulated timeframe.
