TIRUPATI: Police have arrested a 26-year-old differently abled cricketer in Chittoor district on Friday for allegedly murdering a differently challenged woman whom he had lured on the pretext of marriage.

The accused, K. Ganesh (26), was arrested by the Chittoor II Town police in connection with the murder of C. Kavitha (31), a resident of Chittoor town.

Police said Ganesh had known the victim and had promised to marry her. Kavitha did not return on December 31, 2025, after leaving her house. When repeated efforts by her family to trace her failed, they reported to the police on January 2.

Based on the complaint, police registered a missing case and formed investigation teams. Investigators found that Kavitha had earlier sent a voice message to acquaintances stating that if anything happened to her, Ganesh should be held responsible.

Police tracked Kavitha’s movements through CCTV footage, which showed her boarding an auto near Raghava Theatre. Searches were carried out in and around Muthukuru and nearby villages. On January 7, police found a woman’s body under the bridge on Bahuda River near Gangadhara Nellore. The body had later been identified as Kavitha’s.

Police then altered the case to murder and performed a post-mortem examination. Following leads, police arrested Ganesh near Kattamanchi Y Junction. During questioning, he informed investigators that Kavitha had been insisting on marriage. But he wanted to end the relationship after securing a job as an assistant manager with the State Bank of India. He allegedly assaulted and killed her on the night of December 31 and dumped her body under the Bahuda River bridge.

Police said Ganesh is a state-level cricketer who had earlier played for Rajasthan Rajwada Cricket League. He had represented India in an international match against Nepal for differently abled players.
