Kurnool: With the Srisailam reservoir approaching its Full Reservoir Level (FRL), one of its spillway gates was opened on Tuesday afternoon to release surplus water downstream. The current inflow into the reservoir stands at 1.25 lakh cusecs, while the total outflow is 89,959 cusecs. As part of this discharge, 27,570 cusecs are being diverted to the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir through the open spillway gate.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had ceremonially released water from the Srisailam dam on July 8, after offering Jala Harathi to the Krishna River. At that time, the reservoir was nearing capacity, with inflows reaching around 1.70 lakh cusecs. Anticipating further heavy inflows, irrigation officials had recommended the government initiate water releases. However, as inflows subsided, dam authorities closed all gates on July 11.

Currently, the outflow from Srisailam totals 89,959 cusecs. Of this, 20,000 cusecs are being discharged via the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, 35,315 cusecs through the Left Bank Power House, and 32,031 cusecs through the Right Bank Power House.

The reservoir’s FRL is 885 feet, while the current water level stands at 883.90 feet. Although the gross storage capacity is 215.80 TMC ft, the present storage is 208 TMC ft. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure efficient water management amid sustained upstream inflows.
