Visakhapatnam: Srikakulam District Police have launched a public awareness campaign aimed at educating citizens about women's safety, cybercrimes, drug abuse, and road safety through two flagship programs called "Nari Shakti" and "Sankalpam."

District Superintendent of Police K.V. Maheshwara Reddy announced the initiative on Saturday, emphasising that women's safety remains the top priority for the district police force.

The awareness campaign is held for both the urban and rural populations, including school and college students, with police officers conducting village visits and educational sessions across the district.

As part of the Nari Shakti initiative, the police are raising awareness regarding different types of violence against women and children, which includes domestic violence and inappropriate behaviour. The program provides education to participants on women's protection laws, such as the POCSO Act, and encourages the utilisation of safety applications like “SHAKTI.”

Citizens are being made aware of emergency contact numbers, which include the general emergency number 112, the Shakti app, the child helpline 1098, the women's helpline 181, and the toll-free number for cybercrime 1930.

The Sankalpam program has been designed focusing on preventing drug abuse, with police officers visiting educational institutions to emphasise the risks associated with Ganja and other illegal substances.

To initiate anonymous reporting, drop boxes have been installed in colleges and schools for information about marijuana sales and illegal trafficking activities.

The initiative also encompasses a daily awareness campaign for auto drivers and other vehicle operators regarding road safety regulations, speed limits, helmet usage, and restrictions on passenger capacity.

In terms of cybersecurity, police are implementing awareness programs focused on digital fraud, social media harassment, and online safety.
