SPMVV to Host International Dance Festival Nritya Vahini 2025

Tirupati: Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswavidyalayam (SPMVV), Tirupati, will host a three-day international cultural exchange dance festival titled ‘Nritya Vahini 2025’ from November 13 to 15 under the PM–USHA (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) scheme.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, SPMVV vice-chancellor Prof V. Uma said that 87 participants from Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Maharashtra would take part in the festival, which aims to promote cultural dialogue, artistic collaboration, and experiential learning in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. She explained that the title ‘Nritya Vahini’, meaning ‘a river of dance’, symbolises the confluence of global dance traditions and unity through art.
The inaugural session will be held on November 13 at the Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium. Tirupati District collector Dr S. Venkateswar will attend as the chief guest, while Prof H.K. Sheela Sridhar, Karnataka Kalashree awardee from the University of Mysore, will deliver the keynote address.
On the opening day, a Kandyan dance workshop will be conducted by Dr W.M.H.G.U. Indika Tikri Bandara Weerakoon and his team from the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Sri Lanka. It will be followed by a Kathak workshop and lecture demonstration by Akshay Sahane and the Anant Nrutyam troupe from Nashik, Maharashtra.
The second day will feature a Khon dance performance by Dr Vipada Petchot and her team from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, Thailand. Later, a Garba folk dance workshop will be led by Shubham Birkure and the Lay & Nrutyangan School of Performing Arts from Nanded, Maharashtra. A panel discussion on intercultural dance dialogue will conclude the day’s proceedings.
On November 15, Dr U. Himabindu and her team from SPMVV will conduct a Bharatanatyam workshop. Joint rehearsals, lighting, and sound coordination sessions are scheduled for the evenings of November 13 and 14. The festival will conclude with a valedictory session and a grand ensemble performance featuring all participating groups.
