Special Drive to Prevent Seasonal Diseases in AP: Narayana
Vijayawada: Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, P. Narayana, here on Friday held a review of the preparedness to tackle seasonal diseases like diarrhea, dengue, malaria, etc in view of the rainy season.
In the meeting with senior officials of his department, the minister asked them to improve the drinking water supply systems and ways to financially strengthen the municipal corporations.
Narayana directed the officials to organize a special drive to prevent seasonal diseases. Plug the leakages in the water pipes within 24 hours and ensure that the drains are cleared of the accumulated garbage inside these, he told the officials.
He said that so far no cases of dengue were reported in any of the municipalities, but diarrhea was reported from a few areas.
“A sum of `50 crore will be released soon to plug the leaks in the drinking water pipelines and for removal of garbage from the canals and drains, as also to improve sanitation conditions overall,” he said.
He said the TD government would seek to restore the central government’s AMRUT scheme phases one and two. The previous government had diverted those funds and stalled the implementation, he said.
“The YSRC government did not use the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank funds of `5350 crore as the state did not have funds to pay its share. The AAIB scheme aimed to strengthen drinking water facilities in 50 per cent of the municipalities. “We would now start a special drive to complete the scheme.”
