Sivanath to Set Foundation Stone for Gunadala ROB
The bridge will be built about 10 metres above the railway tracks. The process of making available 5.77 acres of government land required for the project is under way, and the work is expected to be completed within 18 months.
Vijayawada: Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) will lay the foundation stone for a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at the busy Gunadala railway level crossing on Monday, providing long-awaited relief to thousands of commuters travelling between Gunadala and Nunna.
The Rs.98.68 crore project will replace Level Crossing Gate No. 316, one of the busiest railway crossings in Vijayawada, and is expected to provide a permanent solution to a decades-old traffic bottleneck.
The crossing handles around 170 train movements daily, with the gate remaining closed for 14 to 16 hours. Motorists often wait 10 to 15 minutes for the gate to reopen and face further delays due to heavy traffic congestion. Officials said the ROB would reduce waiting time to about one minute and ensure smoother traffic flow.
Approved during 2024-25 and sanctioned on March 30, 2026, the project will be executed with Railway funding. The 920-metre bridge will comprise a 576-metre viaduct, 305 metres of road formation and 18 spans. It will have a 7.5-metre-wide carriageway, 5.5-metre-wide service roads on either side, crash barriers and a modern drainage system, with an overall width of about 24 metres.
The bridge will be built about 10 metres above the railway tracks. The process of making available 5.77 acres of government land required for the project is under way, and the work is expected to be completed within 18 months.
The MP has been pursuing the project through meetings with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and senior railway officials. Once completed, the ROB is expected to improve road safety, reduce travel time and ease traffic movement for thousands of daily commuters.
