SIT Questions Former Deputy CM Narayana Swamy In Liquor Case
The questioning reportedly focused on amendments made to the liquor policy during the YSRC regime, including the removal of the online system for liquor orders and the introduction of manual procedures.
Tirupati:Senior YSRC leader and former deputy chief minister K. Narayana Swamy was questioned on Friday by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the state’s liquor scam. The inquiry, lasted for six hours, was conducted at his residence in Puttur, Tirupati district.
The questioning reportedly focused on amendments made to the liquor policy during the YSRC regime, including the removal of the online system for liquor orders and the introduction of manual procedures.
Narayana Swamy, who held the excise portfolio during the period under investigation, told reporters after the session that he had cooperated fully. “The SIT officials asked four questions, and I answered all of them. I assured them that I will cooperate with the investigation whenever called. They have also issued a notice for my further appearance”, he said.
The SIT had earlier summoned Narayana Swamy in July this year. However, he could not appear due to health reasons, and a proposal to question him via video conferencing did not go through on technical grounds.
Narayana Swamy is the fourth leader from the erstwhile Chittoor district to come under SIT scrutiny in the liquor case. It is understood that he has not been named as an accused and is being questioned as a witness to provide clarity on his possible role in policy changes during his tenure.
