Tirupati: Former Rajya Sabha MP  V Vijaysai Reddy said the removal of duplicate voter entries under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is justified when the same person is registered as a voter in more than one constituency or in different states, including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the media on Thursday at Tirupati, he said duplicate entries arising from minor spelling differences in names should also be identified and removed.
The former YSRCP leader said the names of foreign nationals who do not hold Indian citizenship but have obtained Aadhaar cards and registered as voters should be removed from the electoral rolls. However, he stressed that the deletion of votes belonging to genuine Indian citizens is not acceptable.
He said the Election Commission should not be blamed for the SIR exercise as long as no errors are committed during the process. Vijayasai Reddy also said the demand for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner cannot be justified merely because Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made such a demand.
