Singapore to Renew Development Partnership with Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati
Naidu emphasized the importance of mutual respect and enduring partnerships, stating that AP and Singapore can together drive inclusive progress across multiple sectors.
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has hailed a promise from Singapore's trade and investment minister Tan See Leng that the island nation’s government would again be a partner in the development of AP and Amaravati.
“It’s a pleasure to all of us that the Singapore government would support AP for the state’s sustainable development,” the CM said.
After a meeting with Naidu on the third day of his isit, Singapore’s minister for manpower and second minister for trade and industry, Tan See Leng, affirmed, “Singapore is fully prepared to be a partner in the development of Andhra Pradesh and its capital city, Amaravati.”
Tan also referenced the policy shifts that occurred during 2019-2024, adding further weight to his remarks shared on Facebook.
In his post on Facebook, the Singapore minister reiterated the island nation’s commitment to working on ongoing and future projects in the state, identifying agriculture, food processing, and renewable energy as promising sectors for investment. The minister noted that Singaporean firms had won tenders under the Swiss Challenge method to develop a startup area within the capital.
However, following the change in government in 2019, the partnership was discontinued, and the Singapore consortium eventually withdrew from the project. Tan confirmed that discussions on developmental collaboration have resumed.
Although the consortium is no longer involved in the seed capital phase of Amaravati, Singapore remains committed to offering technical expertise in areas such as urban planning, infrastructure, and governance. Singapore also looks forward to partnering with global institutions like the World Bank in Andhra Pradesh’s growth journey, he said.
In response, Naidu, on behalf of the people of Andhra Pradesh, extended his sincere appreciation of the positive response from the Singapore government and the minister
He acknowledged that his recent discussions with minister Tan had laid a strong foundation for renewed collaboration between Andhra Pradesh and Singapore in sectors such as agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, renewable energy, port infrastructure, digital innovation and skill development. In a Facebook note, Naidu expressed confidence that Singapore’s support would play a crucial role in building world-class infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu emphasized the importance of mutual respect and enduring partnerships, stating that AP and Singapore can together drive inclusive progress across multiple sectors.
