Vijayawada:The Union ministry of handlooms and textiles and the Indian Silk Gallery launched a Silk Expo in Vijayawada on Saturday to promote silk textiles.
Kesineni Janaki Lakshmi, the wife of Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath alias Chinni, inaugurated the expo, explored the stalls and engaged with the artisans.
Janaki Lakshmi remarked that the exhibition not only showcases the artistic brilliance of weavers from across the country but also provides a unique opportunity for consumers to purchase silk fabrics directly from the artisans at prices lower than those typically found in the market.
Y. Srinivasa Rao, the organiser of the Indian Silk Gallery Expo and a retired deputy director of the Central Silk Board, highlighted that the exhibition, which would run until September 2, is attracting large crowds.
Prominent women industrialist Sajja Manju and several others also participated in the inaugural programme.
