KAKINADA: An incident involving YSRC cadres triggered panic in East Chodavaram village of Nallajarla mandal in East Godavari district after an animal was sacrificed and its blood splashed on a flex banner of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy late on Friday night.

According to Nallajarla police, some YSRC cadres had erected a flex to mark Jagan’s birthday, carrying the slogan “Rappa… Rappa…”. On Friday night, they allegedly sacrificed a goat and performed an abhishekam on the flex using the animal’s blood.
Police identified seven persons involved in the incident. After completing formalities, the accused were taken on foot from the police station to the government hospital at Nallajarla, as part of the procedure, before a case was registered.
East Godavari district superintendent of police D. Narasimha Kishore said the police would not tolerate any attempt to create panic among the public. He said the accused were identified immediately and arrested within 24 hours.
The SP said the goat was sacrificed in public view, following which Nallajarla circle inspector Wilson rushed to the spot with police teams and took the accused into custody. A police picket has been set up in East Chodavaram village and the situation is under control, he added, asserting that such barbaric acts would not be allowed.
Meanwhile, Gopalapuram MLA Maddipati Venkata Raju strongly condemned the incident and said the alliance government would take stringent action against those involved in such anti-social activities.
