Nellore: In a political setback to former minister Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy, Mekala Prasanna, the sarpanch of Utukuru Peddapalem village in Vidavaluru mandal, tendered her resignation from the YSR Congress (YSRC) on Thursday and joined the Telugu Desam (TD).

The sarpanch reportedly said she took the decision after coming to know about the derogatory comments Prasanna Kumar Reddy had made against Kovur MLA Prashanti Reddy.

Sarpanch Prasanna, accompanied by her husband Polayya and supporters, met the Kovur MLA and MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy at the latter’s residence in Nellore, where she formally joined the TDP.

TDP leader Bezawada Vamsikrishna Reddy has played a major role in Prasanna shifting to the TDP.

Speaking on the occasion, the Kovur MLA appreciated the growing support for TDP in the Kovur constituency. She declared that the public will respond firmly to what she described as "negative and derogatory political tactics."

Referring to recent comments made by Prasanna Kumar Reddy, Prashanti Reddy underlined that people of Kovur have stood by her and their trust remains her greatest strength.
