Serial Burglar Held, Gold Worth ₹27L Recovered

TIRUPATI: The Srikalahasti Town police arrested a habitual offender involved in a string of house burglaries across Tirupati and Nellore districts, recovering gold ornaments and vehicles worth lakhs.

The accused, Meeduri Sunil, 29, a resident of Venkateswara Puram near the Penna River bridge in Nellore, was arrested late on Monday. SP V. Harshavardhan Raju said Sunil was involved in nine theft cases reported at Srikalahasti Town I & II, Thottambedu, BN Kandriga, Naidupeta, and Gudur police stations.

Police recovered 248.7 grams of gold, valued at ₹27 lakh and three stolen motorcycles from him. Sunil, a known history-sheeter, has nearly 28 criminal cases against him in Tirupati and Nellore. A dossier criminal (DC) sheet has been opened at Nellore II Town Police Station.

The SP said Sunil targeted locked houses at night to fund his alcohol and substance habits. He advised residents to alert police when leaving town. The department plans to install LHMS cameras linked to the Command Control Centre for quick Blue Colts response. Police have recovered property worth over ₹1.1 crore in two months.
