Vijayawada:A separate NCC Directorate for Andhra Pradesh is expected to be established within three months, with Guntur likely to be its initial headquarters, Deputy Director General of AP & Telangana NCC Directorate Air Commodore Narsingh Sailani said.
Speaking at a programme at Prasad V. Potluri Siddhartha Institute of Technology, Kanuru, he said the Central government and the DG NCC had initiated the process of bifurcating the existing combined directorate for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Sailani said he had discussed the proposal with education Minister Nara Lokesh, who assured full support from the state government. The new directorate would initially function from Guntur and later shift to Amaravati once the required infrastructure was created, he said.
Proposals had also been submitted for an NCC Training Academy and training areas in the state, Sailani said, adding that cadets currently depended on educational institutions for training facilities.
He was speaking after launching T-shirts for 35 AP and Telangana cadets taking part in the All Wing Inter Directorate Service Shooting Championship (AWIDSSC)-2026 in Delhi from August 31 to September 11. Cadets from 17 directorates will compete in the championship.
Sailani said NCC training helped develop discipline, leadership, confidence and a spirit of service, besides providing exposure to drone technology, cyber training and adventure activities. Cadets also participate in programmes such as TB Mukt Bharat, Vande Bharat and Swachh Sagar Abhiyan.
Institutional Excellence Awards were presented to five institutions, while professional excellence awards were given to staff, Associate NCC Officers and Permanent Instructor staff under the Kakinada NCC Group.
