Season 4 Of Andhra Premier League Commences Today

VISAKHAPATNAM: Union Aviation minister K. Rammohan Naidu and actor Venkatesh will be present chief guests at the opening ceremony of the Andhra Premier League (APL) on Friday. Venkatesh is the brand ambassador for APL Season 4.

APL governing council chairman Venkata Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao announced the details of the league during a press conference at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Thursday.

The opening ceremony will include a live dance by Tollywood actress Pragya Jaiswal and a musical performance by composer Charan Pakala, who has created the tournament's official anthem. There will be laser and drone shows.

Season 4 will have seven teams competing, up from six during the previous editions. The tournament will have 25 matches, 21 league and four playoffs, compared to 15 matches in the earlier seasons.

The winning team is set to receive ₹35 lakhs and the runner-up ₹20 lakhs. Individual match prizes will also be awarded. Entry to all the matches will be free

The seven participating teams are Vijayawada Sun Shiners, Royals of Rayalaseema, Simhadri Vizag Lions, Tungabhadra Warriors, Amaravati Royals, Kakinada Kings and Bhimavaram Bulls.

The inaugural match will be between Kakinada Kings against Amaravati Royals at 7:30 PM following the opening ceremony.

The tournament will implement the Decision Review System (DRS) over umpiring decisions, ensuring fair play throughout the competition.

As per the mandate, each team playing the APL Season 4 will have two Under-19 players. The tournament will feature approximately 500 players, including those who have shown promise at the state Under-16 level.

Matches will be broadcast live on Sony Sports 4 (English) and Sony Sports 5 (Telugu). They will also be streamed on Palm Fan Code OTT platform.

IT minister Nara Lokesh took to social media platform X to extend his best wishes to all participating teams. "From the beautiful beaches of Vizag to the tranquil banks of the Tungabhadra, to the pristine landscapes of Rayalaseema, all of Andhra Pradesh is getting padded up. The Andhra Premier League cricket championship is taking off soon! Are you ready?" he posted, using the hashtags #DhummuLepu and #APL2025.
