Sankranti Sambaralu To Be Held From Today

Three-day Sankranti festivities with races, contests from Jan. 11–13

Kakinada: Konaseema Sankranti Sambaralu and Sir Arthur Cotton Dragon Boat Race will be held for three days from January 11 to January 13 in Atreyapuram in Konaseema district.


Swimming and Rangoli competitions will be held on January 11, Dragon Boat Race on January 12 and 13. Kite competitions will be held on January 13.

300 people registered for Rangoli competitions and 100 people for Kite contest.

As many as 250 members in 25 teams from Andhra Pradesh and Kerala will participate in Dragon Boat Race competitions and 200 swimmers will take part in swimming from across the country.

Cine actor M. Sharwanand will launch the Orchestra and Nari Nari Naduma Murari programmes at Mahatma Gandhi Junior College at Atreyapuram and the Utsav events will be held from 7 am to 10 pm.

Kothapeta MLA Bandaru Satyananda Rao said that efforts are being taken to make it a tourist hub. He said lakhs of devotees are thronging Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple at Vadapalli and it would be developed as a temple for eco tourism.

He said the Konaseema district would reach new heights at the national level with these celebrations which will be held in a magnificent manner, creating a festive atmosphere for three days.

He said the state-level Dragon Boat Race, held last year brought immense fame and prestige to the Konaseema district and continues the same spirit this year too.
