KAKINADA: Rajya Sabha member Sana Satish has urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to allow toll-free travel for one week from January 11 on the occasion of the Sankranti festival, citing public convenience and safety.

In a representation to the Union minister, Sana Satish said that every year during the Sankranti period, the biggest festival for Telugu people, millions travel between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to be with their families. He noted that the festive rush, coupled with ongoing road repair works, leads to severe traffic congestion at toll plazas along the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway (NH-65).

He said similar conditions are expected this year as well and stressed that temporary toll-free travel would help ease congestion, improve traffic flow and reduce hardship for commuters. The move, he said, would also ensure smoother and safer transportation during the peak travel period.

Sana Satish expressed hope that the Union Minister would consider the request in the larger public interest and take steps to provide relief to travellers during the festival season.
