They congratulated SHG members and encouraged them to expand their entrepreneurial activities: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: Sales at the live food court of National Saras Mela in Vijayawada have crossed ₹1 crore, marking a milestone for women’s self-help groups (SHGs). NTR district collector G. Lakshmisha and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra attended a cake-cutting programme at the Saras Mela on Friday to mark the achievement.
They congratulated SHG members and encouraged them to expand their entrepreneurial activities. The collector said the Saras Mela, being held at Punnami Ghat, offers visitors an opportunity to sample the cuisines and traditional food of different states under one roof.
The 50 live food stalls, where regional delicacies are prepared and served on the spot, have emerged as a major attraction. Lakshmisha said the fair is helping women turn their culinary skills into business opportunities, generate income, and improve their economic independence.
It also provided a wider market for their products, enabling them to connect directly with consumers. Commissioner Dhyanachandra said sales crossing ₹1 crore reflects the talent and hard work of SHG members and the response from visitors.
He expressed hope that the women would achieve greater success after their participation in the fair. The mela hosted awareness programmes led by experts to strengthen the financial capabilities of SHG members.
The sessions covered banking services, access to credit, financial management, and use of digital marketing to promote their products. DRDA project director A.N.V. Nanchar Rao and other officials attended the programme.
