Safety Drive Reaches 3,200 Road Users as Vijayawada Division Marks ILCAD 2026
Held under the theme, “Alert Today, Safe Tomorrow,” the campaign focused on promoting safe behaviour at railway crossings and preventing accidents.
Vijayawada:The Vijayawada division of South Coast Railway (SCoR) conducted a five-day safety awareness campaign covering 3,200 road users as part of the observance of International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) 2026 on Tuesday.
Held under the theme, “Alert Today, Safe Tomorrow,” the campaign focused on promoting safe behaviour at railway crossings and preventing accidents.
The awareness drive was organised from June 5 to June 9 at 10 level crossing gates across the division under the supervision of senior divisional safety officer Rambabu Vavilapalli and his team.
As part of the programme, railway officials distributed safety pamphlets and displayed posters and banners in English and regional languages to spread awareness about safety measures at railway crossings.
Nukkad Nataks (street plays) were staged at three level crossing gates to educate the public about the dangers of negligence and the importance of following safety rules while crossing railway tracks.
Railway officials said 3,200 road users were counselled during the campaign and sensitised to safe practices at level crossings. Participants were also informed about provisions of the Railway Act, 1989, and the legal consequences of violating safety regulations.
Officials said the initiative was part of the division’s ongoing efforts to reduce accidents and improve public awareness, stressing that safety at level crossings requires cooperation from both railway authorities and road users.
