Nellore: In a remarkable gesture of devotion, a sadhu from Tamil Nadu has spent Rs 1.70 lakh, saved over five years from offerings made by devotees, to install permanent queue railings at the Bala Tripura Sundari Devi temple in Tripurantakam.

Shivaramudu Reddiyar, who has been living near the temple for several years, told Deccan Chronicle that he hailed from Kollimala in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu and had left home at the age of 17. He said he made the contribution at the direction of Goddess Bala Tripura Sundari and considered the temple his home.

“The temple provides me with food every day, and I clean its premises every morning. I do not beg, but accept whatever devotees offer me,” he said.

Having observed devotees struggling to manage queues during festivals and on other crowded days, Reddiyar decided to use his savings accumulated over five years to install permanent railings and facilitate the movement of devotees.

Temple Executive Officer D. Anilkumar said Reddiyar hailed from Tamil Nadu and had been living on the temple premises for a long time. He had also donated cooking vessels to the temple in the past.

Reddiyar is now planning to construct a welcome arch in front of the temple as part of his efforts to improve facilities for devotees.

His contribution reflects an act of service rooted in faith, with the sadhu choosing to spend his modest savings on the convenience of fellow devotees.
