Vijayawada: YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday alleged that the rule of fear was replacing the rule of law in Andhra Pradesh and questioned whether people had reached a stage where they feared the police the most.

In a post on X, Jagan Mohan Reddy said the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna, the suicide of Kranti Kumar after accusing police of harassment in a selfie video and several similar incidents were not isolated tragedies but reflected a dangerous culture fostered under what he termed the TD-led coalition government's “Red Book governance”.
“Today, people are increasingly asking whether the police are functioning under the Indian Constitution or under Chandrababu’s Red Book. Fear, not justice, is becoming the defining feature of policing in the state,” he said.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Sai Krishna case had shaken the conscience of the state and questioned why the victim's mother was still seeking answers and asking authorities to hand over her son's ashes if his body could not be produced.
He also referred to the cases of Kranti Kumar, Tirupathamma of Tuni, who allegedly died by suicide after recording a selfie video accusing police of harassment, Kalavathi of Srikakulam, and Gangamma, a Dalit woman from Kurnool whose family has sought a judicial inquiry into her alleged death following police interrogation.
The former chief minister alleged that these incidents pointed to a breakdown in accountability and said the DGP, Home Minister and Chief Minister could not evade responsibility for the situation.
