Nellore:The Madamanur village in Manubolu mandal is set for a major industrial investment with Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd proposing to establish an integrated steel plant there at an estimated cost of `3,678 crore.

The project is expected to generate more than 3,200 direct jobs besides creating indirect employment through ancillary industries.

Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy on Thursday inspected the land identified for the project and said the government would soon initiate the acquisition process. He assured farmers that they would receive fair compensation.

Interacting with farmers, the MLA said the company required around 240 acres for the project. Farmers had requested the acquisition of an additional 40 acres and assured them that he would place their demand before the government.

Chandramohan Reddy appealed to villagers to extend their cooperation to the project.

Referring to industrial development in nearby Muthukur, he said the establishment of industries had improved livelihoods and expressed confidence that Madamanur would witness similar growth after the project became operational.

The MLA said he had previously taken up compensation issues relating to land acquisition for GVK, BBI and power projects and had also pursued enhanced compensation for land affected by high-tension transmission towers. He claimed to have recently secured a monthly wage increase of over `4,000 for SEIL workers.

Earlier, the MLA inspected a newly laid village road and a desilted irrigation canal. He also inaugurated a cement road constructed at a cost of Rs 5 lakh at the Muslim burial ground and a mineral water plant established by SEIL for the benefit of villagers.

The MLA said development and welfare works worth over Rs 4.07 crore had been taken up in Madamanur over the past two years.
