KAKINADA: Controversy has erupted after YSRC Amalapuram in-charge Dr. Srikanth strongly objected to cleaning of wounds due to dog bites with a RIN Soap.
Panic spread in Bodasakurru village in Allavaram mandal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district after a rabid dog attacked eight children, all below 10 years, inflicting deep bite wounds on them. The incident occurred three days ago.
On Sunday, one of the injured, a five-year-old boy, had been brought to the Government General Hospital at Kakinada in a critical condition, while the other victims remained under treatment in the Allavaram Area Hospital.
YSRC Amalapuram in-charge Dr. Srikanth visited the Area Hospital to check the condition of the dog bite victims undergoing treatment. He expressed dissatisfaction when he saw the wounds of victims being washed with a RIN soap, instead of hydrogen peroxide, spirit, Betadine and normal saline.
Dr. Srikanth advised the hospital doctors and staff to adhere to medical protocols while treating the dog-bite victims.
However, Area Hospital superintendent K. Sankara Rao maintained that they are following treatment protocols as approved by the World Health Organisation. This led to Telugu Desam leader D. Sathibabu Raju strongly objected to the YSRC in-charge interfering with treatment protocols. Sathibabu accused the YSRC leader of trying to politicise the issue.
