Rooftop Solar Installations Register Sharp Growth in APEPDCL Region
Growing public awareness of renewable energy and greater confidence in the incentive schemes offered by the Central and State governments is attributed to the growth
Visakhapatnam: Rooftop solar adoption has recorded significant growth across the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) region, with 88,561 consumers installing rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 475.33 MW as of June 30, APEPDCL chairman and managing director Immadi Prithvi Tej said.
APEPDCL supplies power to Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitarama Raju, East Godavari, Kakinada, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Eluru and West Godavari districts.
The utility recorded its highest-ever annual addition during 2025-26, with 51,583 rooftop solar systems having a combined capacity of 197.09 MW connected to the grid, marking a major milestone in its renewable energy programme.
Prithvi Tej said rooftop solar installations have expanded steadily over the past four financial years. APEPDCL added 17.39 MW through 864 installations in 2022-23, 30 MW through 980 installations in 2023-24, 70.25 MW through 8,307 installations in 2024-25, and a record 197.09 MW through 51,583 installations in 2025-26.
He attributed the increase to growing public awareness of renewable energy and greater confidence in the incentive schemes offered by the Central and State governments. He said APEPDCL had streamlined technical support, grid connectivity and net-metering procedures to facilitate faster and more transparent implementation.
Highlighting the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, the CMD said the Centre provides subsidies of `30,000 for a 1 kW system, `60,000 for a 2 kW system and up to `78,000 for a 3 kW rooftop solar installation. He added that two lakh eligible SC and ST families are being provided free 2 kW rooftop solar systems under the scheme.
Prithvi Tej said rooftop solar systems help consumers reduce electricity bills while contributing to clean energy generation and environmental conservation.
